If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘bury your gays’ trope, it is simply the concept that they are killed off every time a queer person is in a horror movie or book. Unfortunately, this means that so many horrors actually dangle the hope of representation before us and then effectively erase it.

Across movies and TV, there are many notable characters that have suffered the fate of the trope, and the repetition has become a disappointing realisation where there has been a built-up expectation that if there is someone in a horror movie that is queer, they will die by the end of the movie.

We could make this an in memoriam, but let’s look at movies that do this right. Here’s a run down of horror where queer people are alive and well.

Fear Street Trilogy (2021)

After a series of brutal slayings, a teen and her friends take on an evil force that’s plagued their notorious town for centuries. Welcome to Shadyside.

The Babadook (2014)
