  1. Hey BuzzFeed, it’s lonely out in the cold. Here’s some comfort: The media world exploded after BuzzFeed published 35 pages of unverified “intelligence” reports. The publication was widely condemned — but not everyone slammed BF. Among the handful of defenders was Vanessa M. Gezari, the managing editor of Columbia Journalism Review, who argued it was being debated behind closed doors at the top levels of government and media. Among those blasting BF was the WaPo’s margaret Sullivan, who said BuzzFeed crossed a line with the salacious dossier.

2. Facebook edging into journalism?: The social media platform that journalists love to hate seems to be dipping its digital toes into news. It announced the “Facebook Journalism Project.” It will forge deeper ties with news publishers and develop training and tools for journalists. Early partners: WaPo and Vox. Maybe this will be a big deal. We’ll see.

3. Why fake news isn’t the big story: It’s the rise of increasingly partisan citizens, argues Amanda Taub in the NYT. And it’s this increasingly sharp divide between people that is driving the rise of fake news. An interesting analysis.
