Future of News’s “3 to read”: Snapchat into sports | BuzzFeed publishes elsewhere | Millennials & news

3/17/15: A weekly compilation of a trio of stories, videos, and data viz from the past week for Future of News members.

  1. Game changer?: Snapchat is moving into coverage of live sports — but not as a typical broadcaster. Instead, it’s counting on users to supply photos and videos, which will be curated by its own staff.
  2. BuzzFeed’s site has incredible numbers — 200 million visitors a month, to use one stat. But Jonah Peretti is looking to publish outside his site too, on everything from Facebook to YouTube, not just use those sites to drive traffic back to him.
  3. Millennials don’t look for news, they stumble across it on social. And pay for it? No thanks: “Like, you’re going to charge me for information that’s going on around the world?” (No, I didn’t not make up that quote; it’s out of the report. I swear.)
