Okay, so we got off a bit later than expected (no surprise, if you know us), but for the first cup of the day decided to keep things Jersey local.

The shop’s owner is a tremendous baker and full of flower power.
Suffice to say, we skipped the Decal! My 1/2 mix did the trick though.

Our first stop was Harrisburg, PA. Figured we’d find something to eat and get a quick jolt of caffeine. Katharine cased the town on Google and found what turned out to be an amazing find: LITTLE AMPS COFFEE ROASTERS on State Street.

Groovy staff rides and a nice looking website usually mean one thing: primo coffee.

It’s an inviting place on a wide corner just down from the State House in a charming part of town. James, who took our order, was also the coffee roaster, offering details on the Ethiopian origins of the espresso beans. Suffice to say, my perfectly made cortado ranked with the very finest — perfectly pulled by Kate, topped with a rich milk slurry, expertly crafted. My wife’s iced cold brew was equally well done, unique and satisfying. Strains of a well-curated music library bounced off the high-ceilings. LITTLE AMPS is definitely worth the quick detour if you’re headed along the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Machine, reflection, coffee perfection.
