Home Brew

The next stop on our thirty day road trip took us across Ohio’s fertile farm lands south of Lake Erie, through a bit of rough-and-tumble Detroit rush hour traffic on toward Grosse Pointe where good friends from New York now live.

After a full day hanging around Cleveland’s University Park area, we were a bit maxed by the time we pulled up their quiet, bucolic lane. We spent the evening catching up with Jeff and Jessica, our kids played with theirs, and we finally decompressed after another day on the move.

My research hadn’t yielded any must-visit coffee shops in Grosse Pointe, so when our generous hostess had piping hot mugs of perfectly brewed coffee waiting for us in the morning along with some of the best coffee cake I’ve had in years (her grandmother’s recipe), venturing out to the charming town center for another jolt seemed completely unnecessary.

A steaming cup of home brew back-lit by the morning sun shimmering off of Lake St. Clair.
