Music has long been associated with alleviating stress and aiding relaxation. Recent studies have shown it to improve the quality of sleep in adults with sleep disorders, proving lullabies aren’t just for babies.

Research has found music with a slow beat (around 60 BPM) to be most effective as it synchronises your heart beat with the music beat thus slowing it down to a more relaxing, sleep inducing pace. Classical music is generally recommended but any instrumental music without a defined melody and with few volume fluctuations should work.

Persistence is required. It can take up to 45 minutes of listening whilst lying in a relaxed position to induce sleep and in some cases, it can take at least 3 weeks sleeping with audio before any real benefits are seen. The result however, is well worth the effort. Not only will you find yourself sleeping more soundly, you will also begin to notice the health benefits that come with listening to soothing music with regards to relaxation and stress management. There are also no side effects.

We’ve compiled a playlist of over 8 hours of slow paced, gentle, relaxing sleep sounds which we hope will send you off into a deep, restorative slumber in no time. Sweet dreams.
