Since finishing my own 30-day submissions challenge, I have observed the journeys of many others doing the same, and have even become one of the publication’s new Editors!

Curating your own list of publications ahead of the challenge can prevent scrambling to find publications further down the line. As explained in my “things I wish I knew” story, it’s better to have alternatives at the ready just in case particular submissions get rejected.

To help those starting out, or even returning to the challenge, I have compiled a list of publications that are worth having on your radar before you embark.

All publications meet the following criteria:

  1. They are currently accepting new writers.
  2. They have an easy-to-follow application/submission process.
  3. Editors are highly communicative and quick to respond to submissions.
  4. Where possible, constructive feedback is left rather than a flat-out refusal.
  5. They give all levels of writers a chance.
