Taking a break was game-changing — Days 19–20.

I am back from my vacation. It was very up-lifting, for sure.

It was a bit challenging to get to Lisbon — I had a layover in London, arrived in Faro, then had to take the train to Lisbon. When I arrived, I learned that there were no train tickets available anymore, so I had the chance to go on a lovely bus ride through half of Portugal at the back of a fully packed bus.

This trip was physically exhausting. Every single day we went sightseeing, but already the moment I left my apartment at 4 am before my flight(s), I felt it is going to be awesome for my writing progress. It was a little bit tempting to bring my laptop with myself — 5 hours of flight in total with 3 hours of layover, that is 8 good hours of work before meeting my friends in Faro! But I decided that this little vacation should really be about the break. And it was. I did not think about writing at all in those 4 days. Sometimes it came up a bit, especially when people didn’t realize this is not really what I wish to talk about during my holidays, but otherwise, I didn’t think about it at all.

And this is what I needed. On Friday, I eventually started working properly on my thesis again. I am having a great flow, ideas are coming up about what else I can mention, and it is exactly what I needed.

If you have a big task to finish but the deadline is still somewhat far, do take my advice and go on a proper vacation. Not like “I will do home-office today” and then you watch Netflix in guilt the whole day, but get out of your town/city/etc. for a couple of days without any means of working. You will be eager to get back to it at the end, but in the meantime your brain can finally breathe a little bit.

Have an awesome Sunday! :)
