What Does Reserved Really Mean for Amazon FBA Sellers?

A few weeks ago when I shipped my first inventory batch to Amazon for FBA, after a few sales, I checked my inventory and saw that some of my products were showing “Reserved” which got me really confused and wondering what does reserved really mean?

As usual, I quickly went online and started researching. I found the answer on Amazon’s help page but it’s really word, so I’m hoping I can summarize and clear up the confusion for you assuming you’re confused about this too.

According to Amazon, this is what that confusing “Reserved” status actually means:Watch movie online Get Out (2017)

• The item(s) is/are being transferred from one Fulfillment Center (FC) to another. (Note that the quantity in reserve may temporarily show double — ex. a single item moving from one FC to another might show “2” in reserve, representing the item moving out of FC #1, as well as the item being received in FC #2.)
• The item(s) is/are attached to a Pending Order which could be part of a combo order, or just waiting in queue until the customer’s payment method has cleared- meaning it has been approved.

The following steps will help you determine whether an item(s) in “Reserved” Status is attached to a Pending Order:

1. Under Seller Central, navigate to Inventory > Manage Inventory and then click on the filter by the “Reserved” column.
2. Copy the ASIN of the item which you want to double check its Pending Order validity
3. Go to Orders > Manage Orders
4. Click on Advanced Search located on the right side of the yellow search button (located on top left)
5. Click on ASIN from the search drop-down and paste the ASIN in, then click the “Search” button.

The results should display if you have Pending Orders for the selected item. If no results show, then you can safely assume that the item(s) is/are in transit from one Fulfillment Center (FC) to another.

This was really confusing for me but totally makes sense now. I hope that this short writeup helps clear up the “Reserved” status mystery

Here are a few of the most common reasons for Units being reserved:

1. Units are tied to a pending order (most common reason and generally is only a few days, but, some cases, our payment and order detail verification processes may potentially extend order processing times for as long as 21 days.)
2. Units are being picked, packed, or shipped for a current order
3. Units are tied to a fulfillment center process. Fulfillment center processes include: dimension and weight measurement, hazardous material check, and fulfillment center transfer.

You can also view the status of reserved inventory units via Reserved Inventory Reports at:

Reports > Fulfillment > Reserved Inventory(beneath the Inventory header).

Generally, reserved status only lasts a matter of a few days, as units that are tied to pending orders sometimes await payment approval, and units being shipped between fulfillment centers require shipping time.
