7:59 a.m. — I was a minute early to work and the door doesn’t automatically unlock until 8:00 so I looked like a delinquent attempting to breaking into somewhere I shouldn’t be as I fumbled for my key.

8:05 a.m. — Drank the yummy Chimera coffee we have at the office because that is my favorite part of my mornings here at 36°N (probably best for my wallet & coffee addiction too).

8:09 a.m. — Looked around frantically for Madelein because I couldn’t find her at first and she is the best co-intern ever.

8:17 a.m. — Realized I had no ideas for my blog this week so far and started writing what I had done in my day so far.

9:11 a.m. — Start creating a series of videos to turn confusing written instructions on how to do things into a clear play-by-play video.

9:52 a.m. — More coffee.

10:04 a.m. — Wow, creating this video is taking a lot longer than I thought. Hopefully I will be an expert at iMovie by the end of this.

11:02 a.m. — Get my phone fixed while I am at work by the Apple business team. That saves a nice two hours from my weekend.

11:16 a.m. — Attempt to sort a box of around 50 keys that may or may not all be mislabeled. I’m probably looking like a delinquent again trying to break into all the doors in the office with these random keys.

12:00 p.m. — Walk down to Guthrie Green for lunch

1:03 p.m. — Squeal with joy because my building blocks came in the mail. Children’s building blocks, that is. Madelein and I built a castle with some of them earlier this week and wanted more so we just had to order another set.

1:07 p.m. — Begin building a fort around the front desk using the new blocks and attempt to check in people at the front desk for an event at the same time.

1:39 p.m. — Assemble a cart that was made for a very strong person to put together (aka not me).

2:00 p.m. — Attend a workshop with the Apple business team to learn about different ways to integrate their products better into business commerce.

2:58 p.m. — Start trying to come up with a reason I have been writing down everything I have been doing through the day for this blog.

3:14 p.m. — Clean up the water leak in the supply closet.

3:48 p.m. — Brainstorm about the best popcorn toppings to order for our intern event next week. (We’re thinking honey roasted peanuts, mini pretzels, M&M’s, gummy bears, mini marshmallows, mini oreos, and caramel chips.)

4:35 p.m. — Come up with some sort of conclusion for this blog about the great things I have learned today. And from writing my life down today, I realize that no two days are the same. I’m probably not going to have to try 50 keys in random doors any other day this summer. But it’s not about those small tasks, it’s about the big picture. What I didn’t get to write down today was all the great conversations I had with members at 36°N, and that’s really where all of the great experiences and learning comes from. It’s fascinating to overhear conversations about how a member’s business is growing faster than they ever expected, but also see the struggles of entrepreneurship firsthand. It gives me the bug to want to start a business myself — and who knows, maybe I just will.
