Is writing also brand building?

As we all know, I started a series where I promised that I would write one article a day for 365 days. I wanted to do this to get back into a habit of writing and hoped that posting it publicly would put an artificial pressure to stick to this “promise”. That streak existed for 10 days and then I stopped.

The biggest reasons I stopped was because something didn’t sit right with what everyone was perceiving this exercise to be. I had a lot of people send me private messages that they loved how transparent I was and it was such a great “brand building” exercise. I did not really take anything they said seriously but then someone I really respected commented “ I am so happy you are finally building your brand and promoting the TeliportMe story“, we went back and forth on this debating on the authentic nature of my writing and brand building was not what I going for.

I then decided I should stop, rethink why and what I should be writing about. For all practical purposes, I am the voice of TeliportMe and anything I say or do will be considered as some “smart” way to improve the brand of the company. After 2 months of pondering I still don’t think there is any other way to go about this, its tough to separate the both because at this phase in my life my work at TeliportMe is what defines me, maybe someday my words will matter too and taken out of context of my work but today is not that day. I embrace wholly and with complete transparency this notion that writing can and will be construed as brand building however much I may not want it to be.
