Today we’re thrilled to announce that 3Box closed a $2.5M seed round led by Placeholder Ventures to reinvent user data storage. Venrock, Northzone, and CoinFund also participated in the round. We’d like to offer a warm welcome to our new partners; we couldn’t be more excited to have them join the 3Box family. 🎉

Welcome Brad Burnham to the 3Box Board

Brad Burnham, Co-Founder of Placeholder Ventures and previously of Union Square Ventures, led the round and will join the 3Box Board of Directors. His commitment to re-decentralizing the internet through user-owned data was evident from our very first conversation, and we are already seeing the the impact of his support and experience.

Brad has spent many years working with leading companies in the privacy, open source, and internet infrastructure industries — from DuckDuckGo, to CloudFlare, to StackOverflow, and countless others. His passion and perspective will help to guide our team as we enter this next chapter.

A Passionate and Growing Community

We’re also excited to collaborate with our new advisors from Venrock, CoinFund, and Northzone.

David Pakman, Partner at Venrock, brings experience in building and advising successful technology businesses at scale and he will help us navigate the complexities that will arise as we grow. Jake Brukhman and the team at CoinFund have been among the most innovative thinkers and investors in the Web3 space, and we’re excited about the use cases they’ll help us develop. Wendy Schadeck and Northzone bring a passion for the Web3 ecosystem and will help 3Box grow its community in NYC and Europe.

These new partners join ConsenSys, our earliest incubator and investor, who continues to be a leader in the Ethereum and Web3 ecosystem. Mike Kriak, Global Lead of Media and Advertising at ConsenSys and former COO of Mashable, is also on the 3Box Board of Directors. Mike lends his operational excellence and deep knowledge of the online media landscape to 3Box.

This exceptional group of advisors brings deep Web3 knowledge alongside many years of experience in building traditional technology businesses. Throughout the fundraising process they all demonstrated the utmost commitment to our mission and vision for how user data will be managed online. We couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey with them onboard helping us achieve and exceed our ambitious goals.

Introducing 3Box Inc.

3Box has also formed an independent entity, 3Box Inc., to help us deliver on our mission of building connection and trust online through distributed data storage. 3Box Inc. will be responsible for furthering development of the core 3Box network protocol, infrastructure, and tooling — including the 3Box JavaScript SDK, developer APIs, and Hub application.

The immediate focus for 3Box Inc. will be on making it even easier for developers to build with 3Box, further decentralizing the 3Box network, and building out a developer portal complete with a managed infrastructure service for projects that would like 3Box to operate their infrastructure. To execute on our vision and plans, we’ll also be looking to grow the core team in New York City and Berlin. For more detail on job opportunities, check out our careers page here.
