Announcements

Ceramic Protocol launched!

The biggest news this month is the launch of Ceramic protocol, a new permissionless protocol for creating and accessing unstoppable documents. These documents serve as the foundation for a connected, interoperable web without silos. Ceramic can be used to store any type of signed data, but it is well suited as a universal routing layer for storing decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and their associated metadata that collectively enable boundless interoperability between an ecosystem of connected wallets, applications, databases, and services. For a full overview of Ceramic visit this blog post.

Along with the protocol launch, we are also creating a Ceramic Ecosystem Alliance, a collaborative group of organizations, communities, and individuals actively contributing to the research and development of the Ceramic protocol. If you are interested in becoming a member sign up here.

SDKs and APIs

Identity Wallet key storage in an iframe

Work nears completion on moving key storage in Identity Wallet to an iframe. Once released this will bring security and UX improvements. In addition it will make integration with smart contract wallets easier. Once completed we will release this update in two migrations to manage backwards compatibility. We will publish a blog post detailing the architecture, and what it means for developers along with the first release shortly.

Performance and scalability with OrbitDB

Alongside the work moving Identity Wallet key storage to an iframe, we are also integrating performance improvements by adding a caching layer that will allow faster data synchronisation by unifying user cache for multiple domains.

Integrations

Sablier.me

Last month Sablier launched their decentralised alternative to paypal.me. Making it easy to send DAI to anyone with an ENS address. Furthermore users can stream DAI to each other over a fixed period. Integrating 3Box profiles has lead to a seamless, one click onboarding. Check out the app here.

Wildcards

Charity fundraising NFT project Wildcards have integrated 3Box profiles. As well as viewing profiles, users can edit their 3Box profile from directly inside the app.

Microsponsors

Microsponsors, a new kind of Peer-to-Peer auction marketplace for personal time slots, built using NFTs and 0x protocol launched this month. Each time slot is issued as an NFT, and has a 3Box thread attached to it. This thread allows for communication and negotiation between the buyers and sellers through out the process.

Mintbase

NTF marketplace Mintbase have integrated 3Box profiles. Profiles give users users a more human experience, and makes sellers more recognisable.

Team

Janko Simonovic joins as Protocol Engineer

We are pleased to welcome Janko onboard as Protocol Engineer. With him Janko brings over 12 years development experience and a deep knowledge of protocol design, distributed systems and p2p architecture. Before joining 3Box, Janko worked at OriginTrail, building from a supply chain solution on of Ethereum from the ground up.

Events

Even though we have been house bound, it doesn’t mean events have stopped. 3Box has been involved with the following events over the last month:

Community Call

We ran our community call last Thursday (26th), along with conversations about Ceramic, we were also joined by Paul from Sablier and Jason from Wildcards demoing their 3Box integrations. Check out the video here. The next Community Call will be on Thursday 14th of May, sign up here.

NonCon

Rachel presented “Building with composable data and user identities” remotely at NonCon last Saturday, 4th of April.

MetaCartel’s Dragon Quest Hackathon

We are pleased to be sponsoring MetaCartel’s Dragon Quest hackathon, an event which promises to be a hotbed of creativity and hacking. We have 1000 DAI up for grabs for best 3Box integration. Check out our announcement blog.
