3D Printing Technology Continues to Evolve In Amazing Ways…

What can’t be created by a 3D printer today? That’s probably a more interesting question to ask these days as 3D printing technology continues to rapidly advance in front of our eyes.

Are you up to date with all of the brilliant, insane, and just plain fun things currently being printed in 3D? Take a look at a few of my favorites!

Who doesn’t like candy? And what’s better than candy? Candy created from a 3D Printer! Showcased at CES last year, 3D Systems revealed their ChefJet series, which can create a variety of recipes including sweet treats flavored with chocolate, vanilla, mint, sour apple, cherry and watermelon — all printed in full, edible color.

Foodini 3D Printer makes things you can eat

Speaking of food, check out the Foodini. This microwave-sized 3D printer can print intricate food masterpieces in a matter of minutes! Buying the ingredients is still necessary but, it is a quicker way to make uniquely detailed art forms out of food. This 3D innovation has cut out hours of hard work and concentration for chefs.

3DSimo Mini — The 3D Printing Pen

This is a creator’s dream. This miniature innovation has the ability to cut foam, 3D draw, burn and solder. The 3DSimo Mini has amazing features such as the ability to control temperature and speed of this device through your smartphone.

Local Motors 3D printed car: Reload Redacted Swim

Cars will soon be the newest creation of 3D printing. Arizona-based Local Motors plans on being released next year. This low-speed, battery-car will be priced between $18,000 and $30,000.

On a more serious note, 3D Printing advancements in the medical field have been fascinating and inspiring to watch a evolve. Check out a few of these stories.

2-year-old Violet Pietrok’s. 3D printing helped doctors reshape Violet’s face

Meet 2-year-old Violet. She was born with a dramatic abnormality. With 3D printing however, doctors were able to create an exact duplicate of Violet’s skull to practice before they did the actual surgery. The neuro and plastic surgeon saved time and reduced risk for Violet during her surgery. She is prime example of how 3D printing can make a real impact in people’s lives.

Prosthetics is another area that is being optimized with 3D printing technology. Advancements in 3D printing is leading to more human-like shape in prosthetics, enabling a better future for many.

3D printed replica’s of human organs

3D printing is also using MRI’s and CT scans to create an exact replica of organs. These are accurate representations which can immediately detect any issue with that organ. Not only has this helped improve accuracy, 3D organ printing has also reduced costs of creating these models by 66%.

Special 3D printer which only prints artificial bones.

Incredibly, this printer can create artificial bones out of calcium phosphate. This can revolutionize how we fix bones, as well as how we replace bone tissue in cancer patients or victims of a collision. This also removes the use of heat, which reduces the risk in these procedures.

What do you think? Is there anything you have seen that can be created with a 3D printer that I missed? What do you think will be next?
