Although Shopify users can seek support from the Shopify community via chat or forums, often users need advanced support outside the scope of Shopify’s free services. 3five developers recognized this need, and created its Expert Support App for users who may need fast, technical support and want to pay-as you-go, versus being held to fixed monthly contracts.

With time billed in 15 minute increments, the Expert Support App assures clients get the support they need, when they need it.   • Where and when did the idea for the Expert Support App emerge, and what made you think Shopify users needed it?

We noticed a lot of people get started with Shopify, but quickly get overwhelmed when it came to development/coding-related tasks. Shopify has some built in tools to find a developer, but requires the store owner to submit multiple forms to more than one developer with the hopes that one of them can assist them. Within that process, there’s huge variability with the type of response that a store owner can receive. Depending on the scope of the support request, there can also be a huge variation in price. With Expert Support, we simplify the process so that store owners can get an answer quickly from an authoritative source and understand the costs associated with each task so they can make decisions about how to prioritize development costs.

  • What gives 3five the authority to produce something so closely related to Shopify Support?

3five has been working with Shopify from the beginning. We’ve seen all kinds of requests from super-tight custom integration to the most common questions, like app installs, social media integration, etc. We know the ins and outs of the system, its capabilities and how to workaround common needs that aren’t shipped out of the box. And if we don’t know the answer, we’ll find out.

  • Who was involved in creating the app?

Expert Support was a group effort, pooling together all sorts of talents from the 3five team. We wanted to create a streamlined way for our team members to interact with customers, and at the same time, give shop owners the ability to track and control their development budgets.

  • What potential do you think the app has in the Shopify world?

The potential for stores using Expert Support is limitless; we can handle any kind of task quickly and with exceptional quality. We want the product to be a go-to resource for novice to experienced shop owners. We aim to remove another barrier from ideas to completion.

  • What kind of apps does 3five have lined up in the future?

Our development philosophy is to build small, composable yet powerful apps that don’t step on each other’s toes. Some of our current interests revolve around improving Shopify’s order reporting and increasing engagement with shop customers. We think there’s a lot of room for improvement around product wishlist/registries.
