The Marketing department was on the lookout for a film director to generate quality video content. There must have been something in the air that saw this guy coast (or rather crash) into the 3YOURMIND stratosphere, as within days of him landing, we realized we’d kicked a home run.

It didn’t start off like that mind you — I think he was a little grumpy at doing a trial day (“My work speaks for itself”)… but he gritted his teeth, pushed through, and in the process made a really funny video that to this day sits at the header of our Facebook page! He conceived, shot and completed it by the end of the day, and man it made me laugh a lot! It really caught the essence of the team, with a relaxed and funny style… Minutes later we got an email that we got a match — even if he insists he doesn’t use Tinder.

From his first steps in the company until today he worked on a concept that has helped define a tone for our institutional videos. It wasn’t that easy though — he wrote about seven different scripts until he got the approval for of what is being presented today, the final piece… He remembers reading between the lines; the push and pull between the different desires of various heads of department, as well as needing to stand out from other boring videos. He wanted to create something special.

It took him 3 days of travel through three countries to shoot the videos that are presented today. Naturally there were a myriad of obstacles that arose while he was trying to get the job done. Confirming locations was a never ending story; even once everything was confirmed, the problems continued to pop up. He struck gold with our lead actor, Peter Seaton-Clark of Crawford Talents, but even he wasn’t confirmed until three days before the shooting!

And the drone! Let’s not talk about the drone.

Day 1 — Location Insanity

I named Day 1 after the Clash song for one simple reason: no, not the Brexit! Just imagine getting to the destination, all your crew are ready for the gig, and then: “nope, you can’t use your equipment here guys!”

Wait, what? Yes… sad but true — this was how the whole video shooting started… with problems! Sounds familiar? Mikael pushed through though. He made a few phone calls and after a few minutes(or hours) they finally managed to get started! That day they filmed at 3T and got wonderful shots of those insane 3D machines. If you haven’t seen them yet, I’d recommend you watch the video ;)

After a tight agenda they called it a day, and were readying for a flight back to Planet Berlin to touch base! They raced to the airport to arrive less than an hour before their departure… only to find out their flight was delayed for over 3 hours!!! It was too late to have dinner, too early for their flight, but never a bad timing for a beer or two ;)

Or should they just stay?

Day 2 “Save time and money”

After a long night of beers and delays (but very little food) the crew got up early and started shooting at 8.00 AM in Kreuzberg, Berlin. As if it wasn’t ironic enough, even shooting in a restaurant they weren’t able to get any food! Wrapping location, they moved to 3YOURMIND headquarters in Berlin. The Berliner 3YOURMINDers were quite indifferent to the unexpected ‘activity’ in the corridors, but were were also ready to cooperate! Michael got his piece quickly and moved forward slowly. Wrapping for the day around 7pm, they were ready for a sleep — but instead packed all their stuff, got in a car and drove to Wroclaw, Poland to start ‘fresh’ the following day.

Day 3 order your 3D print like ordering your pizza

The pizza finally arrived the guys got their food! But not before a few funny stories during their shooting. The day begun at 3YOURMIND Wroclaw, where Mikael and Peter met the Polish 3YOURMIND and filming crew. They received a very nice welcome by our Polish colleagues and they had quite a lot of fun with them as well, or so I heard:

“I was really worried about the drone shot, which we needed to film in the centre of town. We found our dream location, and after some deliberating we decided to do the right thing and ask the security guard. Doh! He said no:( So what did we do? We walked some ten metres and smashed it out in one take. And ran.”

And then the celebration begins! The Polish know hot to do things right, and when the crew went got to the office they were waiting for them with food and drinks, ready to party and get their souls back to their bodies! Well… maybe the following day…
