Day 12. Story: ‘Of all the gin joints ….’

Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) sends his unrequited love interest Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) away with her estranged husband Victor Lazlo (Paul Henreid) at the end of “Casablanca” (1942).

Ever since I watched the movie Casablanca (1942) when I was in junior high school, I’ve been a Humphrey Bogart fan. For a 12-year old, that story made me a societal anachronist.

“Heerszch lookin’ at you, kid,” was one of my lispy lines. I’m not quite sure what my parents thought about that. None of my friends appreciated my Bogart…
