At 400 THINGS, we curate each volume to narrate a story of craftsmanship, design and retail with a purpose.

Our third volume 400 SKINS, celebrates beauty in every form and colour through a series of minimal, neutral toned objects that narrate a larger story that we believe in.

Celebrating unfiltered beauty with 400 Skins

With 400 SKINS we have curated a collection of responsibly created, handmade things from creators that highlight the beauty in mindful, uncluttered living. The term nude, refers to a tone of clothing or makeup, matched to the wearer’s skin. In “400 SKINS”, we pay tribute to our diversity with a curation of design-focused objects from India for the home as well as skin care. The objects are representative of a nude palette that embraces every kind of racial and ethnic beauty, attempting to make inclusivity the norm, not the exception.

We believe that our skins narrate the stories of our lives. Our skin carries marks like medals, scars like shields, and the colours they come in like protective blankets, connecting us with our kin. We refuse to be tied down to a unidimensional view of beauty, and urge everyone to carry their unusualities and quirks with pride. We do not believe in the idea of spotless perfection, airbrushed limbs or symmetrical faces.

In a larger sense, we want to question: what is beautiful?

Our muse for 400 SKINS, and the face of our campaign, Namita Sunil is a multi-faceted crusader. Named as one of India’s top emerging models by Vogue, she is also an artist, creating immersive illustrations that challenge accepted definitions of beauty. Namita recalls while growing up, Fashion TV served as a safe space for her. She saw models with diverse skin tones and felt at home, inspired by powerful black women like Beyonce, Rihanna and Zadie Smith. When she wanted to express her opinions on the beauty of diverse skin colours, she found that modelling helped her make this statement effectively.

Making inclusivity the norm at 400 THINGS

This was the start of her journey to be proud and unapologetic about her skin colour and become a voice for racial diversity in the modelling industry. Through her unabashed expression to inspire women across the world to be fearless and fiercely independent, Namita resonates with 400 THINGS’ ethos of celebrating diversity and being a mindful consumer.

At 400 THINGS we believe the fashion and lifestyle choices we make are a reflection of the lives we lead, each thing breathes layers of character and adds colour to our personalities. Each thing we have curated for our third volume, embodies these values of acceptance and self love. We invite you to explore 400 SKINS and discover beauty through out lens.
