“We said ‘We will never invest in a chatbot’, yet we did when we met the e-bot7 team.”

As probably most VCs we had looked at the chatbot opportunity early on. We saw quite a few companies with different approaches. But there were so many startups in this space overall and it was very hard to judge who might be a potential winner. So we concluded, that we will not invest in a chatbot.

The beauty of a small VC partnership is, that such rules can easily be adjusted when a great opportunity arises. That happened when we first met the e-bot7 team from our office basecamp Munich. The combination of two very commercially minded founders (Fabian and Xaver) with one extremely good CTO-founder (Max) was what made us change our mind about their space as an opportunity for us.

Quite some many years have flown in their AI-driven hybrid chatbot for almost any type of business and any use case. They started off with classic customer service as their first use case and gained nice traction in different industries with top brands who were super happy with e-bot7. One of the key success factors was an unusual deep insight into customer’s pain points, which Fabian and Xaver had gained in their early days: holding bot workshops to finance their first product drafts.

The momentum kept going and so quite opportunistically, we did a few intros to series A investors and quickly a €5.5m round was led by global VC RTP.
