Career Fear

It is very likely that I will submitting my resignation letter today.

I’ve worked at the same company for almost 13 years (about 2 weeks longer than I’ve known my wife). She knows what a difficult decision this is and how stressful this process has been. She has been my rock. She has allowed me to throw a million scenarios at her and she has challenged me with a wide array of questions that I may not have thought about.

Since I graduated from college, I have always used the same system to process entries that I’ve had to make. It’s also been the system that I’ve trained others on so that they can make the proper entries into the system. My entire career has been working on this system… almost 21 years.

And I’m leaving it… or not.

Two potential jobs… one that would take my family 2000+ miles away from where we live. However, the company uses the same system that I’m used to. Other than the new location and policies to follow, the actual job transition wouldn’t be too bad. There would definitely be new things to get accustomed to.

The other, leaving the industry that I’ve “grown up” in but performing tasks that I’ve learned over the last 13 years. I’d just be operating in a completely foreign world (to me).

No matter which way my family and I go, this will be the most important decision for all of us.

What to do…
