People tend to overcome stress and frustration when changes occur in their routine life. The first day at a new workplace walks hand in hand with fear, hesitation, and perplexity while it is more appropriate to remain calm, focused, and attentive. The way to overcome stress is not the topic of this article, though I would like to introduce some effective approaches to maintain the inner balance and rock the first day at work.

First Impression Matters

The society has a tendency to judge a person by the appearance and behavior. Thus, despite the increased level of endorphins in your blood — try to pull yourself together and remain cool while showing up in front of your new colleagues. They might pretend not be interested in you, but they will be watching you closely while you are dealing with your nerves on the new working spot.

The importance of your intentions on the new position might be expressed with the shirt or dress you are wearing. There are no required outfits for the first-working-day-balance, but you should feel comfortable and appropriate in the outfit you have chosen.

Practice Autosuggestion on the Night Before

The magic of speaking to yourself is proven to have power. I remember myself being a child who was freaked out to walk in in the room with the dark space under the bed. My mom once told me that there is no one there and that no mystical creature exists in our house. She said that I should say this phrase to myself before entering the room and I’ll get rid of that fear. Well, guess what, it has been working for me since then.

Nothing had changed in twenty years when I changed my first job. The night before THE DAY and the moment before entering the office, I told myself that the fear would be gone soon and people who work there will stop being mysterious creatures for me. It seems like we are approaching the power of balance, doesn’t it?

Leave the Negativity at Home

You can hardly ever achieve inner balance on the first working day when you had a bad sleep, or you got caught in the rain or had a morning conflict with your partner. Try to avoid the negative influence around you to prevent it all to reflect in the first-working-day mood. Make sure you had a good and dreamy sleep so you won’t be yawning all the time. Last but not least, have your favorite dish for breakfast and spend morning time in solitude with your mind or in a good company.

There is no ultimate plan for you to follow and expect the successful outcome. You can read, analyze, absorb, and adapt to some tips to create your personal guideline of gaining balance on the first working day which might be later applied to any stressful life situations.
