How to get a job raise every 5 years
You hear it all the time at work!
Co-workers complaining about their salaries not being enough for them to get through the week. They complain about not getting a job raise and if they do they still complain how much they got.
There is not a day that goes by that I do not hear that shit. I tell them that if you want a job raise them you need to sit down and figure out why you need a job raise and memorize that shit because they will ask you that question and you need to prove to them that you really need one.
So you walk into your dept head and demand that job raise! You prepared yourself before the showdown and have read articles online about how to get a job raise. You go state your case and hope that things go well and get that job raise.
Time goes by then several months go by and nothing. By this time you are a little bothered and annoyed as well that you have not gotten your raise. You decide to go back and remind your Dept head about the talk about the job raise only to find out that there is a job freeze in the company. You mid your head and go back to your cell..I mean cubicle and go back to work.
Although they told you there is a job freeze you notice that they are hiring new people? You think to yourself but I thought there was a job freeze? By this time you are annoyed and just give up your goal of getting a job raise.
I have been here many times and have have seen many people go through this as well. It is disheartening as well as petty to go and ask for something that you think you deserve. The problem is that they have the upper hand and not you.
Why?
Because you my friend and all of us as well are replaceable. It does not matter how long you are with your employer, if they need to get rid of you for whatever reason you will be let go. I have seen that happen many times. Employee working for the same employer for years until one day they are let go! No rhyme or reason.
Knowing this I began to think. How can I get a job raise quickly. I thought for a bit and then it hit me. I could get a job raise every 5 or so years by doing this one thing!
And that’s thing is for you to get another job!
Yes in order for you to get a raise you need to start looking for another job. Yes I know it seems a bit extreme but think about it. You already are disillusioned about your employer so looking for another job. is the first thing that jumps in your mind. Which is why I tell people that they should always keep their resume up to date and circulating. Just because you have a job doesn’t mean that your job search stops. As a matter of fact you should continue to send them out as much as possible.
I’m always sending out my resumes as well as checking out other positions at the job boards. The most I lasted at any job position was either 3 to 5 years after that I get the itch to leave and try something else. Every time I did this my salary would go up a few thousand. Yes it takes time to build up money but at least you are getting a job raise.
I know it’s hard going to interviews and sneaking off your job for interviews is a pain. Still I think it’s a necessity as well as keeping the edge sharp when it comes to interviewing.
Some people will tell you that being a job hopper looks bad on your behalf and yet staying at the same position for years is also a bad thing. So who is right? If you want to be happy and to move up the salary chain them this is what you will need to do. If your employer is not loyal to you then why should you be loyal to them?
In modern society these days the only God people and corporations follow is the greenback! At like a corporation does that when you see that there is no more money coming or that they are laying off people then you have the right to start looking for another place to work in.
I used to be loyal until I got laid off the first time. The way they did it really pissed me off that even today when I think about it it irks the shit out of me. From then on I decided to worry about myself and what I need. Don’t put your emotions at front as its only business and that is what you need to look at it as.
Progression is what life is all about!
So when you feel that it’s time for a job raise talk to your manager or department head and see if they bite. If they do good and if they don’t then you need to look outside and find other opportunities for you to take advantage. Don’t get mad, don’t take it personal it’s just business and on that note then move on!
I’m talking about this only because it has worked for me since the beginning. So if it worked for me then it will probably work for you as well.
