New update from the Asian region: South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT will provide innovative public services based on blockchain technology. In the first place, blockchain-based solutions will cover all main ministries and committees.

The main aim of this restructuring is a popularization of public services within the state, implementing such services as facial recognition and mobile personal identification with the help of innovative technologies. The pilot projects will be presented later this year by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.

Specifically, the projects will create a new evidence management platform that will be led by the National Police Agency, new welfare benefit management to be led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, a food-safety data platform that will be managed by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and other.

The first identity-based public service platform will be implemented in South Gyeongsang Province, accompanied by the new toll payment platform, water supply quality management system and blockchain-based electric vehicle management solution. All these platforms will be led by state institutions, providing equal access to innovative technologies to all South Korean citizens.
