4EVERLAND’s IPFS Pinning Service: 4EVER Pin

We are pleased to announce an exciting addition to 4EVERLAND Storage, the 4EVER Pin.

What is the 4EVER Pin?

You may already be aware that the Interplanetary File System or IPFS is a distributed storage network where computers from all over the world form nodes to share the data.

Usually, when a piece of data is retrieved in IPFS, the IPFS node stores a local cache of the data, which undoubtedly takes up space on that node. Therefore, IPFS nodes will periodically or frequently clear these caches to avoid running out of storage space, which will result in that content data being cleared. Since you can only guarantee control over your own IPFS node and have no sway over other IPFS network nodes storing your data, if your node is not operational, that content will not be retrievable on the IPFS network.

One solution is the pinning service. When you ‘pin’ data on an IPFS node you are telling the node that the data is important and should be saved. Pinning prevents important data from being deleted when the clear process occurs.

4EVER Bucket is also essentially a pinning service and performs well in supporting AWS-S3, so why might you still need the 4EVER Pin service?

The advantage of Bucket is that it offers compatibility with Web2 developers, which means that any original S3 user can use Bucket seamlessly, while the S3-compatible Bucket offers a better file management experience. If you are a Web2 developer just starting to learn Web3, or are skilled and used to using an object storage service like AWS-S3, 4EVER-Bucket will be the best choice for you. For example, you can define the names of files and folders, delete or modify any content in a folder, breakpoint uploads, etc.

4EVER Pin is based on the IPFS Pinning Service, which is a standardized specification for developers building on top of IPFS that allows an application to integrate a pinning service without needing to learn that pinning service’s unique API. What’s more? 4EVER Pin extends the services provided by the Pinning Service with more developer-friendly tools. For example, bulk cid uploads, file and folder uploads, .car file parsing and etc. If you are a Web3 proficient, are familiar with all kinds of IPFS related knowledge or want to be more in tune with the IPFS standard, then 4EVER-Pin will be more suitable for you.

Although we haven’t finished all the features yet, we will continue to iterate and improve.

Some advantages of the 4EVER Pin service

4EVER Pin offers great advantages in terms of speed of IPFS data retrieval. With 4EVERLAND’s global network of IPFS nodes, data can be retrieved and found in much faster times. In addition, parallelised retrieval also means that you can request data from multiple nodes at the same time as retrieving data, which also increases download speeds.

Always-on nodes

4EVERLAND has ‘always-on’ nodes, which is a reliable way to keep your data available. This allows you and your users to access your content anywhere, anytime, and regardless of the device used.

CIDs upload pinning

4EVER Pin offers both individual and Bulk CIDs on CID uploads and supports the retrieval of the source node of the CID, which greatly improves the efficiency of finding CIDs.

Bulk CIDs support CIDs being parsed as .txt files line by line, making data migration as easy as possible.

If you are a heavy user of IPFS and your own IPFS node does not have enough space for your needs, you may choose to migrate some of your data to 4EVER Pin to alleviate the storage problem.

The accessToken is the credential that the application can use to access the 4EVER Pin API and you can find it on the 4EVER Pin page.

When you first enter the 4EVER Pin page, your accessToken is automatically generated. This accessToken cannot be deleted, but can be reset.
