From the very beginning until the end, Spotlight shows audiences the real story of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic Priests uncovered by the Boston Globe’s investigative unit, with which they won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize. The harrowing account is accurately portrayed in the film, using real names and details to enact scenes, and the amazing ensemble cast helps bring the ‘survivor stories’ and drama around them to life. It is Mark Ruffalo’s most passionate (and quite possibly best) performance yet, and though the film slows down in the middle, it offers plenty of substance and a reminder of the horrors that have plagued the church for many years and are just being discovered.
