A good compromise leaves everybody mad…

The Jets dealt one of the few bright spots on the roster over the weekend, sending safety Jamal Adams to the Seahawks for a pair of 1sts and more.

Typically a rebuilding team keeps young, All-Pro talents on team-friendly deals but, hey it’s the Jets, right? That said I think this is more than a fair deal for them, very much a 1-step back, 2-steps forward move.

Adams is a big loss and there’s never any guarantees with picks, but this is a significant haul for a guy who wanted out anyway. It also opens up a myriad of options.

If Darnold works out they have 3 extra picks in the top 3 rounds in the next 2 years to quickly fill out the roster (many of which will still be on their entry deals when Darnold cashes in).

If Darnold flames out, they’ve got the picks to trade up for their QB of choice (though they’d likely secure such a draft ranking on their own in such a scenario) or press FFWD on Rebuild 8.0? 9?

For Seattle? A bit of an over-payment for a safety but their window is now and he can be a big part of that and moving forward.

Pet Peeve: the argument that, given recent poor Seattle drafting, their pick is of less value to them.

That was fun while it lasted.…

MLB, who everyone and their dog recognized was the most disorganized and poorly run organization in pro sports, was likely to suffer a Corona outbreak did just that during its first weekend. As of this 8:00am, 8 Marlins have tested positive. Do we get to 12:00 or 12 first? :(

Sad but not shocking, let’s hope leadership makes the right moves in protecting its employees, fans, and loved ones. Each case has a ripple effect across society; let’s hope these greedy, old school owners redefine ‘All Live Matter’ and act accordingly.

Do, or do not. There is no try…

I’m a huge proponent of The Athletic, happily adding it my ‘list of digital products I am actually willing to pay for.’ It’s a great service with an intelligent community (a comments field worth participating in!) but I’m confounded over the lack of tennis coverage.

Admittedly now isn’t the time to expand coverage and I get that it’s a North America-focused site but nevertheless, tennis is huge at the national and international levels.

Go on, Mather & Hansmann, grab that low-hanging fruit and get on with your plans for world domination!
