A Toast to Fifty Years!
Amici marks its 50th anniversary at Casa Loma Gala
From the smell of evergreen trees, to the taste of tuck shop sweets, to the sounds of camp classics and heartfelt memories…Amici Camping Charity’s Camp Heroes Gala was simply unforgettable. Full of magical camp moments, from the sight of a canoe trip at the entrance of Casa Loma, to a whisky tent on the back terrace, delicious food that reminded us of camping days and the sound of that familiar camp bell.
However, most important were the camp heroes who attended and pledged their support of Amici campers for years to come.
We were delighted that so many camp heroes were able to join us, including Master of Ceremonies, CBC’s Scott Russell; the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor for Ontario; Liberal MP in the Western Québec riding of Pontiac, Will Amos; and Amici camper, Ashley singing “Lean On Me” was an unforgettable moment.
We are so proud that the Governor General, David Johnston, though he could not attend, sent his well wishes:
“All those involved in building this organization into what it has become today deserve to be recognized for their skills and dedication; your generosity in giving children the chance to experience camp is truly remarkable.”
— The Honorable David Johnston
With the support of our community and the tireless commitment of our 50th Campaign Chair, Jeffrey Latimer, we have raised over $1.2 million in commitments to support Amici campers and their families over the next five years. As The Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau via video message so eloquently put it, “For 50 years, you have made camp possible for at-risk and underprivileged youth, and encouraged young leaders. Here’s to 50 more!”
