How to not spend a damn thing while going zero-waste — cutlery.

Legend: GREEN is necessary, YELLOW is optional. And yes, my editing skills aren’t great but hope you’ll learn something new!

Going zero-waste can be a completely FREE (no cost) journey. So if it’s free stuff…what do you have to lose? :D

Tons of parties, conferences, hackathons, local food carts provide no reusable cutlery and my only choice is usually plastic cutlery. Hence, this happened.

1. FREE SOURCES

Reverse order as shown in the image.

  1. Napkin — Stolen from Mom.
  2. Stainless Steel Straw — “I was going to throw this, and then I thought, who would be crazy enough to use this?” said my teammate and handed this wonderful straw to me.
  3. Chopsticks — Stolen from Mom.
  4. Spoon, Fork, Knife — Courtesy of Qatar Airways during a trip.
  5. Rubber Band — As a girl, I have a bunch of these.

2. TIPS

I carry this to-go cutlery set with me everywhere I go.

  1. But how do I remember it?
Make it a habit. Tranfering when you change bags, washing it once a month cause it got nasty.. it’ll all become a habit.
  2. Isn’t it heavy?
Nope… (if you exclude that 1/2kg straw)
  3. Do I need carry all of this with me?
Nah. Just a spoon works. But I like carrying all of them as it makes me happy.
  4. But I never carry a bag with me.
Try to find a very tiny spoon (free) that fits in your wallet/pocket.

With time and patience collect free stuff as you go and make your own pack. Cause…
