Week 32: A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron

I absolutely love dogs. I spend hours on Instagram and Reddit scrolling through pictures of cute dogs and simply cannot seem to get enough of them. When a friend shared the trailer of a movie, based on this book with me, I knew I had found the book for the week.

A Dog’s Purpose as the name suggests tells the story of a dog who leads many lives and struggles with the existential question of why he keeps being reborn. We are taken through the life of Bailey as he lives as a mutt, as a beloved member of a loving family, as a police dog and as a stray again.

A Dog’s Purpose is an adorable story and is filled with those ‘aww’ moments that will tug at your heart strings. It’s a fresh idea and was pretty fun read throughout. However, to be honest it was a bit annoying to read an entire novel in the voice of a excited dog. The silly tone of the narration often made the prose rather childish.

This book is a great choice to take on a road trip or flight for some light reading. Keep your expectations low with this one.

Here, take an adorable puppy picture instead.
