I’ve got a week full of travel coming up.

First I’m going not far from home: just to Virginia City for the Ninja Writers Retreat. I’m so excited to see everyone who’s going to show up. (There are still tickets left, if you’re in the Reno/Tahoe area!)

Then, on Tuesday I’m flying to Austin for the Smarter Artist Summit. My friend Hartley Stevens is going to be there — so double fun!

I won’t be home until Saturday, though, so that’s more than a week of travel.

Of not sleeping in my own bed.

Of extrovert activities.

Of restaurant food.

Of plenty of excuses not to exercise.

So, my goal: take a walk everyday. Even if it’s just a few minutes.

Know what’s weird? Looking in the mirror and not knowing what to think about what I see.

Sometimes I look and I don’t recognize myself. Who is that normal-sized lady, anyway?

And then sometimes I look and I see my weird turkey neck and my belly (which was there, even when I was an athletic teenager. Just smaller.) And I wonder what kind of schmuck can’t lose enough weight, even after having most of her stomach removed.

But mostly, I just think: I’m so glad I don’t need a CPAP machine anymore. And I’m okay with my belly. I can want to become more athletic without hating my body the way it is now.

It’s tough sometimes, but I can.
