Every Word You Write is Progress

Stop me if you’ve been here before:

You write 200 words and get a phone call. Now you need to shower. After showering, you write 100 more words, and then and stop for a coffee. You write 35 more and — darn it — now your child is crying. You need to go stuff some food in that thing (or whatever one is supposed to do with a child).

It’s tempting to beat yourself up after days like this. Resist.

Do you know how books are written? One word at a time. Nobody cares when those words were written. Nobody cares how long it takes you to finish. They won’t record any of that on the book cover.

Write when you can. Live when you have to.

Just move forward, even if you go slow.
