The 6D.ai team continues to grow, with two new team members joining us. I’d like to welcome Jeff McConathy as 6D’s Vice President of Engineering, and Ben Benfold as a Senior Computer Vision Engineer.

Jeff helping a Mini Cooper whose driver trusted an early version of Apple Maps… nothing to do with 6D, but illustrates the importance of good spatial data!

Jeff joins us from Trulia where he joined as employee #4 and grew with the company through their IPO and acquisition by Zillow to be VP Consumer Engineering, managing over 100 engineers. His experience in building scalable teams, high quality consumer grade infrastructure and navigating the challenges of a growing technology organization will be incredibly valuable to us as we grow. Jeff had been exploring AR and 3D immersive technologies for several years at Trulia in order to enhance the value of data around your home, and the user experience of browsing that data. So as well as understanding the core AR tech enablers, he knows that the technology ultimately has to serve the developer’s application vision, which is what we’re all about at 6D.ai. Having known Jeff personally for 5 years (our kids are in the same class at school) it’s just fantastic to be able to work alongside him and learn from his wisdom. Jeff & Victor together are, in my opinion, about as strong a combination as I could haved hoped for in building out the AR Cloud.

Ben is a highly regarded alumni of the Oxford Active Vision Lab and will be joining our Oxford, UK team, to work closely with Victor and the researchers in the lab to accelerate the productization of our state-of-the-art IP roadmap. Since graduating with his PhD in 2011, he has co-founded a computer vision startup, and built AR prototypes and proofs of concept applications for the U.K. military and industry. He brings an ability to quickly solve difficult technical problems applying bleeding edge technology and bringing these solutions upto a commercially deployable state.

I’m personally excited to see the traction we have in every area of the company, and particularly thrilled that such high calibre people are choosing to pursue the shared vision we have. We are continually hiring for world-class AR engineering talent, and if you are curious how you can be part of a startup that can be successful alongside the major platform companies, please drop me a private note at matt@6d.ai
