Another fascinating megalithic art piece, to be found close to Oliveira do Hospital, in central Portugal. Evidence that this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

The dolmen may have been built about 6000 years ago! It was found with arrowheads, blades, microliths, adzes, axes and necklace beads, as well as ceramics and a small number of individuals. All these as a result of immemorial rituals and belief in eternity.

Designated monument of public interest since 1992. Therefore, protected by Portuguese National Heritage Board.

Pinheiro dos Abraços is a little village close to Bobadela, in Oliveira do Hospital county. Pinheiro dos Abraços means pine of the hugs, because several years ago there was a pine so huge that 7 men were needed to hold it. Unfortunately it disappeared…

Even the surroundings are worth a special journey combined with Bobadela Roman Ruins, check the sublime perspectives of Oliveira do Hospital and Estrela Mountains on the first picture, and Açor Mountain on the second. It makes me want to explore further those mountains and will do very soon…

“A painted landscape is always more beautiful than a real one, because there’s more there. Everything is more sensual, and one takes refuge in its beauty. And man needs spiritual expression and nourishing. It’s why even in the prehistoric era, people would scrawl pictures of bison on the walls of caves. Man needs music, literature, and painting-all those oases of perfection that make up art-to compensate for the rudeness and materialism of life.” Fernando Botero

Man wants to feel special, unique and to leave footprints as he walks through life.
