COGWHEEL RAILWAY and cable car

Pilatus is easily accessible by public transport or car from Lucerne and Zürich.

You can decide if you are up for a hike or take the railway!

We went up with the rail and hiked back to enjoy more time in the mountain of Pilatus and the wonderful views of the mountains around.

“Commissioned in 1889, a gradient of up to 48 per cent, about 30 minutes travel time: that is the steepest cogwheel railway in the world in figures. Meter by meter it scales the way from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, passing alpine meadows and striking rock formations…
There are many legends and myths associated with the Pilatus. In the Middle Ages people believed that dragons with healing powers lived in the rugged clefts and crevices of the Pilatus.

In the winter months the dragon path is partly not continuously passable.” (Pilatus.ch)
