Every Wednesday of every week, we order lunch for the whole team at 7Geese. While we’re eating, volunteers from the team present on a topic of their choosing that they find interesting and valuable to share. These lunch & learn presentations can take the form of a slide deck or interactive workshop, and can cover subject matter ranging from new advancements at work, passions and hobbies outside of work, recapping a recent business trip, or even sharing autobiographical stories and experiences. It’s always a great bonding and learning experience for the team, a good way to avoid sad desk lunches, and hey, free lunch!

Our dev team has been growing in size, so we’ve decided to begin having developer lunch & learns as well. For these presentations we’re able to dive into some extra nerdy detail on topics that are more focused on technology and writing code.

Lately, I’ve been really intrigued by emerging paradigms from the JavaScript community for handling UI interactions and asynchronous data streams using the RxJS library. This slide deck, entitled “Scratching the Surface of RxJS”, was the first topic I decided to cover for a dev L&L. It ventures to give a high level introduction to the topic and shares part of my experience learning the library.
