Someone in accounting just started a new podcast about their dog

In the new mystery/comedy/drama film Vengeance, airing on Prime video, a writer from New York City attempts to solve the murder of a girl he hooked up with and travels down south to investigate the circumstances of her death. Written and directed by B. J. Novak, (The Office) in his directorial debut, and stars Novak and Ashton Kutcher, among others. Novak’s character, Ben, is intrigued by the possibility of writing the equivalent of a great American novel in the form of…you guessed it, a podcast.

According to Wikipedia, podcasting, originally known as “audioblogs”, had its roots dating back to the 1980s. With the arrival of broadband Internet and portable digital audio playthings like the iPod, podcasting began to take off in late 2004.

What was once just another cutting edge communication tool has morphed into a pop cultural phenomenon. Today, everyone and their dog has a podcast.

A January story in Forbes, 2022 Was Another Record Year For Podcasts, noted “Podcasts continue to grow. Heading into 2023 there are more than 5 million podcasts with over 70 million episodes available. The U.S. is the largest market with 100 million active listeners, up from 82 million in 2021. U.S. podcast ad dollars are projected to increase from $1.4 billion in 2021 to $4 billion by 2024.”

Six years ago this month, Parsons PR created “Pints & Politics with Dan Parsons”. Episode #1 featured Lincoln City Council member (and now State Senator) Jane Raybould and craft beer brewer and entrepreneur, Matt Stinchfield. This month we’ll record episode #55, featuring the chair of the Omaha Public Power District, Eric Williams.

Host Dan Parsons is a 20+ year public relations expert and political advisor with a love for local food, craft beer & cocktails and engaging conversation.

When we started 6 years ago, there weren’t many podcasts being produced in Nebraska. The goal was to bring together diverse thought leaders to discuss the most important issues of our day. Presenting ideas in an atmosphere of cooperation and community. Oh…and what better way to discuss politics than while enjoying a local craft beer?

Being one who seldom misses out on a new trend, after months of planning, today we launched a second podcast. “It’s a Disaster”

I’ve answered the call for more PR crisis clients in the past 5–6 years than I have in the past 20 years combined. It makes sense. During that time we’ve witnessed the most controversial president in anyone’s lifetime, a world-wide pandemic and the political and cultural disruption that it brought and race relations at a boiling point due to the murder of black people by law enforcement…it seems the entire world is burning down around us.

I’ve spent three decades helping solve some of the most challenging — and sometimes bizarre — communications problems you could imagine. Most crisis communications clients tend to call us at least 24-hours too late. So I decided to do my part to try and bring some order to the chaos.

On each episode of It’s A Disaster, we’ll analyze the most bizarre public relations disasters making headlines and blowing up social media. We’ll discuss what went right, what went wrong and what I would counsel to do differently.

Thanks for watching and listening. Would appreciate the hive’s feedback.
