Protocol Weekly #15

Protocol Weekly is a newsletter to exclusively showcase the progress of layer-1 and Ethereum layer-2 protocols.
We’ve got some exciting new changes for Protocol Weekly this week — the addition of layer 1 projects! We believe in a world where each chain is unique and has its own benefits. By showcasing other layer 1 projects, it expands everyone’s horizons of what’s going on across the whole industry. We’re starting off with Parity, Wanchain and Aion, but plan to rapidly expand this over the coming weeks. If you know of any please reach out to us!

Wanchain

From Dan Reecer (Global Marketing Director):

  • Wanchain is in beta testing for Bitcoin interoperability and integration of cross-chain ERC20 tokens (including MakerDAO’s DAI).
  • Wanchain’s global leadership team was just at our U.S. HQ this weekend in Austin, Texas. We held strategy workshops, discussed 2019 plans, presented at the Texas Bitcoin Conference, presented at the Austin Blockchain Collective (did you know 120+ blockchain companies are represented in Austin?), and were filmed for an educational documentary series that will air on Bloomberg in March 2019. The production company was extremely professional — we are quite excited. If you’re interested in being featured in the series, send me a message and I can connect you.

One thing we need help with:

  • We are working with several Ethereum-based applications and protocols for integrations that leverage our Bitcoin-to-Ethereum cross-chain functionality. We are open to conversations with other companies interested in similar integrations. Shoot me an email at dan@wanchain.org.
Aion

From Mike Mason (Ecosystem Development):

Kyber Network

From Shane Hong (Marketing):

  • Together with BitGo, Republic Protocol and other partners, Kyber is excited to bring Bitcoin to Ethereum through the creation of Wrapped Bitcoin Tokens (WBTC). WBTC is the first ERC20 token backed 1:1 with Bitcoin. It is transparent, 100% verifiable, open and community-led. Many applications on Ethereum, including decentralized exchanges, lending platforms and index funds will benefit from having access to Bitcoin liquidity.
  • WBTC is a community-led initiative. You can help by:
  • Reading the whitepaper found on the WBTC website
  • Spreading the word about WBTC by sharing on social media
  • Joining our Kyber developer Telegram to either ask about the initiative or how you can build with Kyber
  • Kyber Network Crystal (KNC) has been listed on Upbit , a Korean exchange launched by Kakao, the biggest messaging app developer in Korea. The listing gives users greater accessibility to the KNC token, which is an integral part of Kyber and necessary for the operation of our liquidity protocol. Learn more about KNC here.
Matic

From Siddhartha Jain (VP — Operations & Marketing):

  • Matic Javascript SDK which makes it easy for developers to interact with the Matic Network is available now. Try it out! Tutorials coming soon.
  • Matic has added Ropsten Network support for Dagger. Now Dagger is available on the Mainnet, and both testnets — Kovan & Ropsten.
We are committed to provide Dagger as a production-grade hosted service for DApps and other apps. Take it for a spin!
  • Matic Validator node development is nearing completion and we are excited for its alpha release!
If you are running staking as service please get in touch, we would love to get your insights for hosting our nodes.
  • New stake manager contract nearing completion. We will be adding support for stake ‘pooling’ shortly.

One thing we need help with:

We would love to connect with projects and teams who are looking for scaling solutions and would want to explore building on Matic Network.
You can now get started with Matic.js. Also do join our community on Telegram and Twitter for more updates!
