Lego organizer built with simple power tools in a small space

I built a little shelf to organize the kids LEGO containers.
- Tried my new pocket jig;
- Practiced building a box — learned that you should never trust store cut edges. should either measure the edge to make sure it is square or trim it before making measurements or cuts. When building shelves, I should have stacked all shelf pieces together once cut to make sure that they are of the same length — I was lucky that they are more or less the same.
- Did sanding both manually and using an orbital sander. I even made a round corner and slight bevels on the edge. I used 60 grit paper make the rough shape and smoothed it out with 120 grit. turned out didn’t need to use 220 and it was fairly smooth. I only 60 grit sanding paper, not sanding block, so wrapping it around a wood block was a good trick.
- Learned the general process of building a simple piece of furniture, design > measure / clamp / measure / cut > finishing.
I was pleased how it turned out and I like its natural look when placed with kids other furniture. Lots of building ideas next, but I’ll occupy my mind elsewhere until next week.
