According to some young people I know well and see all the time, the debate was good. They watched. Of the group of young people (Gen-Z) I spoke with (about 60 of them), ABC handled the debate good.

They liked the fact checking. They liked that they tried to stick to the rules.

They thought, at times, that ABC was bias against Trump. They cut him off quickly or quicker than Harris. They could have asked tougher more detailed questions. They could have asked about policy, more specific policies.

Trump was his usual self according to them. He has not changed his message much. He maintained his focus most of the first third of the debate. He lost his focus when Harris floated out a personal critique of crowd sizes. It was missed opportunity to score points on immigration. It is a classic debate technique too, and he fell for it. He fell for it more than once. He should have waved it off.

In trying to avoid tough questions, he changed the topics at time and it didn’t look good. Abortion was a total flub. He could have accepted his responsibility for the end of Roe v. Wade and then just moved into how he feels now.

Harris was good mostly, very good some of the young people noted. She performed like a lawyer…
