Simplifying on-site healthcare assessments

This initiative is to help users be mobile and carry out care assessments faster and more efficiently.

Icon Global Software Solution provides a wide range of healthcare services for the community care market in Australia. They have a strong healthcare focus and deals with huge amounts of consumer data. Using paper based forms to deal with this kind of data is not easy & is more prone to human error. Icon Global initiated a software solution that replaces the paper based forms, and enable handling thousands of forms online.

Icon Global decided to facilitate their users with a web solution apart from the legacy solution they currently use. The challenge was to come up with the right web solution that will allow the same functionality available the legacy application to be used via web while supporting mobile compatibility as well. This initiative is to help the users be mobile and carry out care assessments faster and efficiently.

Problem

Case managers also known as the carers go through a lot of care assessment/client data. Doing this on paper based methods aren’t efficient. The current system provides the facility of assembling the data fetched manually by carers but that still involves paper based solutions and double handling of data. Going paperless provides a way for the carers to evaluate necessary data on-site and capture the latest & most relevant data accordingly.

Process

Firstly user personas were identified in order to set up the foundation for designing the right user experience. This process allowed the team to explore the touchpoints of users and to lay the foundation of the human experience to incorporate designs throughout carelinkAIR. The journey of a case manager is considered very carefully in order to capture the journey within the application, where the user could take simple and easy steps to complete a care assessment.

Furthermore to go more in-detail with validating the design decisions, wireframes were used. After few design iterations and team discussions, the final designs were approved. Concluding visual designs were derived successfully through this practice.

Solution

The case managers could function nice and easy with better mobility and efficiency while they are out and about in the field. A common layout with a rich information architecture is maintained throughout the application where the user can easily differentiate the action with the information.

The intuitive design now allows case managers to work on assignments without requiring any advanced training. The layouts and functions are easy to follow and clearly defined, which the user can manage efficiently with minimal effort.
