Saudi Arabia is remaining silent in the face of global outrage at the public flogging of the jailed blogger Raif Badawi…www.theguardian.com
Free Speech & Public Beating.
Blogger, Raif Badawi, was jailed and punished for managing a liberal blogging website in Saudi Arabia.
The humiliation of being publicly punished with a beating by the government sends a distinct message to all Saudi Arabia residents that the rights of free speech will not be tolerated.
The 28 second Youtube video shows the blogger being held by a police official, while another beats him twenty times on his back and buttocks with a thin cane.
The person taking the video translates the speaker announcing no cell phone videos and the crowd cheering after the beating, God is Great.
Saudi Arabia, the mega oil rich country has many Western democratic supporters and countries, from around the world.
However, none will comment on this public beating so soon after walking arms linked in France to protest the terrorist shooting of 12-French news media employees and cartoonist at a magazine that lampooned religious symbols of all faiths.
There is a significant difference between death and flogging, however speaking out against any government or religion should never end in death or beatings.
