“Promise me you’ll kill that arrow, please?” I’d like to, but in the real world there are clients who will argue and argue over such things. No matter how much evidence you show them, how many great alternative examples you show, they still want the down arrow. Having said that, I worked at a university for many years and we conducted no end of testing with students and staff. I was so surprised how younger generations actually preferred the down arrows. As designers and developers of course we are super web savvy, but I’ve seen it first hand, year after year with the new intake of students, a lot of them struggled without explicit instructions, it was the same with the university staff. At a certain point you have to give them what they want.
