Your story is mine, Wayne. And I remember Alan Dean “Novelization King” Foster from that first “Star Wars” book, which was attributed entirely to Lucas and on which Foster was ghostwriter. (Come to think of it, that was also my introduction to the concept of “spoilers,” as of course I had rushed to read it, unthinkingly, before lining up at the movies to see it.)

I also remember that book for being the first to spell out “Threepio” and “Artoo.” That was a kind of magic to me then — that there could be an alternate telling of something so singularly canonical, though I didn’t know that word at the time.
