In this #KojikiLostArc (delving into the possible missing arcs from the Kojiki records) article series, i will bring you to embark on a fascinating journey to reconstruct the physical appearances and inner characteristics of the major kami from these eras. Additionally, we will explore their enigmatic intentions towards closely related kami, which might not have been fully documented in historical records.
Who is #Sarutahiko Okami?
#Sarutahiko Okami is the esteemed leader of the earthly Kami, embodying the essence of Misogi, strength, and guidance. As the patron of martial arts like aikido, he symbolizes the power of discipline and skill. Additionally, he serves as the guardian of the Ame-no-ukihashi (Heavenly Floating Bridge) and played a crucial role as the first Kunitsukami to meet Ninigi no Mikoto when the latter descended to the central land, offering guidance and earning him the trust of the kunitsukami. He is thus often also revered as a god of guidance and travel.
Notably, Sarutahiko Okami is also renowned for his union with AmenoUzume, an amatsukami, and is considered the legendary ancestor of the Sarume no Kimi clan, known for creating the captivating Kagura and Noh performances.
Drawing inspiration from the Kojiki, various literatures, mangas, and games, i have reimagine how #Sarutahiko might have looked and what characteristics he may have possessed during this mythical period.
Physical Appearance Characteristics:
- Exudes regal authority, commanding respect with his powerful presence.
- Towering height and a well-built, imposing physique.
- His most notable feature is his long nose, adding a distinctive element to his appearance.
- Often sporting unruly and unkempt hair, contributing to his rugged look.
Inner Characteristics:
- Serious and straightforward in his words, but diplomatically delivers his messages.
- Possesses vast knowledge of the Kunitsukami on Central land, making him an intelligent observer.
- Keeps his findings to himself, enabling him to better understand situations and individuals.
- Prefers not to speak unnecessarily, choosing his words carefully.
- Generously imparts his wisdom to Ninigi, acting as a mentor.
- Upholds a strong sense of righteousness, aligning his actions with the best morals for each situation.
- Shy in the presence of Uzume, secretly harboring fondness for her.
Enigmatic Intentions:
As the ruler of the Kunitsukami, he maintains balance and order. Formerly co-ruling the central land with Okuninushi, he now allies with Ninigi to protect against Yokai threats. Seeking Ninigi’s assistance, Sarutahiko serves as a mentor, guiding him to gain the trust of the Kunitsukami. Despite his powerful presence, his true intentions remain enigmatic, adding to the intrigue surrounding him.
