This is part three of a 10-part series that aims to teach the Chikn community how to become an efficient forager for each of the 10 different resources. You can read the other parts of the series here: Part 1 // Veg | Part 2 // Lumber. The views within this article are my own and not from the Chikn NFT team. As always, NFA, DYOR!

Bok bok! Welcome back to Dano’s Almanac — A Guide to Farmland Foraging! Once again, thank you so much for your ongoing support as I write this series! It means a lot to me to have such a strong community behind me. 🙌

A lot has gone on since I wrote my last article. I had a great time at Boktoberfest 🍻 in Munich, Germany. I’ve set up shop in Austria, where I’ll be traveling 🏔️ for the next week. And I’ve launched my Stars Arena ⭐️ 🏟️ account! If you haven’t already, feel free to join me over there and give a follow once all the dust has settled and the platform gets up and running again. I do weekly giveaways to my ticket holders — and will continue all throughout the hack! Lucky you if you already hold my ticket! 🤑

And now, for the main vein of my resource series. I don’t take my readers for granite, so let’s get stoned! 🪨

Note: For a breakdown of what foraging actually is and all the different resources that can be found, please see Part 1: Farming for Veg. Also, keep in mind that the goal of the Almanac series is to help you get your birds to 100% efficiency.

Choosing a Farmland 🚜

As you’ll have realized by now, having a lot of natural tiles — in this case Stone — will help you in optimizing your Farmland. You’ll be bringing in more Stone every time you forage. Every Stone tile on your Farmland means an extra chance your bird comes home with Stone! 🪨

Note: As I explained in Part 1 of this series, foraging is a game of chance. If you have 10 Stone tiles, you essentially have 10 die rolls to claim Stone. If your birds are at 100% they will each come home with 10 Stone. If you forage with six birds, your yield would be 60 Stone.

Natural Stone tiles give you a Tile Rarity Bonus — a percentage boost applied to your ability to collect Stone. There are only two tiles that will give you a Tile Rarity Bonus for Stone.

Pictured below are the natural Stone traits — Roqs (common; 0.5% bonus) and Coq Roqs (common; 0.5% bonus).

Roqs on the left and the aptly named Coq Roqs on the right. Keep in mind that the tiles can be facing any which direction on your Farmland, so they may not look exactly as they do in the picture.

Note: As mentioned in Part 1, you can reveal more tiles on your Farmland by increasing its Bigness. Once your farm is 120 Bigness, you will have revealed the maximum number of tiles — 24. Add in the barn and you’ve got 25. The native marketplace for Farmland can be found here.

Remember, the goal is to get to 100%. Like Veg and Lumber, all Stone tiles have a 45% Base Percentage for forage success rate. If we’ve chosen a Stoners paradise with four native stone tiles, we can add a 2% Tile Rarity Bonus, bringing our starting total to 47%! Let’s keep going!

Resource Fertilization 💩

Fertilization is one of the easiest and most effective ways to boost your output for all resources. Target fertilizing a resource yields an amazing 10% Fertilized Resource Bonus boost! 🤩

Like Veg and Lumber, fertilizing for Stone is also super cheap, costing only 1,000 $FERT to upgrade. It’s totally worth it! This 10% bonus will last 28 days.

Note: If you are short of the required $FERT, I recommend picking some up at TraderJoe. They have by far the most liquidity for all of the tokens within the Chikn ecosystem!

A few stickers I made playing around with the new Chiknstagram! I also applied one of my favorite tools for removing and/or altering an images’ background and made some final touches using Canva. Welcome to the trifecta of my Creator’s Studio!

Now that we have fertilized our Farmland for Stone — and accounted for our Tile Rarity Bonus — we are at 57%! Let’s keep building!

Farmland Sips 🌾

You didn’t think getting 100% on all the resources would be that easy did ya?! The devs make us start to really work for Stone. There are no Farmland sips available to help boost our percentages or double our yield. 😬

As I’ve speculated in Part 2, the devs have said that they will be keeping a watchful eye on sip usage — meaning they could introduce new sips, nerf old ones, or even get rid of some altogether.

Keep an eye on announcements, especially when Season 2 Blueprints are released, as this would seem like a good time to introduce new Farmland sips! Perhaps we could get some Carbonic Acid, Dynamite, or even TNT to help blast open those Roq’s! 💥

My rendition of Carbonic Acid, Dynamite, and TNT. I may or may not have changed the colors on Acid Rain and done a little bit of editing to Dirt. 👀

Blank Tiles 🟩

As we mentioned in the Veg and Lumber articles, you need blank tiles in order to really increase your percentage for success.

Blank tiles allow you to add Farmland equips, further boosting your resource haul! Equip as many blank tiles as you can.

Note: If a blank tile is not equipped when foraging, the birds will simply be throwing dice at nothing. They’ll collect absolutely nothing from the tile, no matter what the percentages are.

There are four different styles of blank tiles, and with a few variants of each, there is a total of nine different blank tiles you could see on your Farmland. They are blank and have no natural resource associated with them — therefore no percentage bonus for anything.

Farmland #3305. This banger has a 2% bonus for Stone. The price was an absoluetly, absurdly low 11.2 $AVAX, before being sniped a few days ago. It can even add seven Farmland equips! 🤯

Farmland Equips 🏠

Alright! Now let’s get back to increasing our percentages by equipping those blank tiles! Farmland equips are an absolute must to boost your farm — and eventually your birds — to get to a 100% success rate.

There are three Farmland Stone-related equipable Items:

• Rubble — Common (gets you a Stone tile)

• Granite Quarry — Rare (Stone tile with a 2% bonus)

• Stone Obelisk — Legendary (Stone tile with a 4% bonus)

From left to right: Rubble, Granite Quarry, Stone Obelisk.

Now remember when we mentioned the value that blank tiles bring to your farm? Let’s start to get those blank tile’s equipped!

With the 45% Base Percentage, 2% Tile Rarity bonus (over perhaps four Stone tiles), and the 10% Resource Fertilization bonus, we are already at 57%.

Let’s assume your particular Farmland has seven blank tiles. Let’s add five Granite Quarry’s to get a 2% bonus per, and two Stone Obelisk’s to get a whopping 4% bonus each. With these additions we now have an 18% bonus added to our Farmland for Stone — bringing our aggregate total to 75% — and are foraging Stone on 11 tiles! Doing good fren! 🥳

Note: In order to craft Farmland equipable Items, you will need to own the Blueprint. Blueprints can be found by digging in your WormFarm and then deploying $WORM to claim. If you don’t have the Blueprint yet, check out the Blueprint marketplace. 🛒

Now I know what you are thinking… “Dano, come on man, ain’t nobody got a legendary Stone Obelisk laying around, let alone two!” Not so fast!

There was actually an error during deployment and the Stone Obelisk can be found in the rare territory, much shallower in the WormFarm. This means that the cost in regards to $EGG burn for digging and $WORM burn for recovering Blueprints is actually much more affordable than other Legendaries.

It aslo means that many more of the Stone Obelisk Blueprints have already been found, making them the cheapest legendary Blueprint in the marketplace AND the cheapest of all the crafted legendary Items to purchase.

Feel free to have a look around the Item marketplace 🛍️ and see what you can find! I often see Stone Obelisk listed around 0.49 $AVAX and sold regularly with good volume.

Note: Farmland equipable Items last 1,000 forages. Meaning, if you send out 10 birds a day, you will have to replace it after 100 days. Also, Items still have value as they get worn down. They can be decomposed for 5–75% of the resources it costs to craft them.

Expert tip: Decompose Items before the are completely broken to recover a much higher percentage of resources. If you decompose when broken aka 1,000 of 1,000 uses, you’ll get 5% back. If you decompose at 999 of 1,000 uses, you’ll get 15% back. 🧠

The Birds 🐔

Now that we have mastered our Farmland, let’s get our Roostr a movin’!

Just 25% more to go before we get to 100% on Stone!

Note: In Part 1, I broke down the reasons as to why Roostr are the clear choice for foraging. They are much cheaper, but must be at least 24 kg to leave the coop.

Roostr — it’s the play of the game for foraging!

Bird Traits 🐓

Check over your Roostr to see if any of them have a natural Stone bonus. Some could have 2–3% just by having a few Stone-related traits!

Note: I recommend making a spreadsheet to index all of your birds. This way, you can sort by column to quickly find your best birds for each resource (Tungsten, Avaxium, etc.). There is a tab to the bottom of our master spreadsheet, which you can use as your index — including an example from one of my birds.

Using a birds’ natural trait boost is essential for smaller farmers that are just starting out. If you can’t craft much yet, using these natural bonuses will help you get on your way!

To explore birds, go to the new Roostr marketplace and play with the filters. With some tinkering around, you can find birds that have a great Stone bonus.

Some good Stone traits to look for are Human Growth Horomore torso trait (2%), Quarterback head trait (2%), and of course any other trait that includes a Stone boost!

Pictured are the Human Growth Horomore torso trait (left), Quarterback head trait (middle), and a third bird (right) that seriously goes hard for the Roq! It has a Mullet head trait (1%), Bone torso trait (1.5%) and Midnight body trait (1.5%). 3.5% Stone boost in ONE bird! Boom!

Adding to our already achieved 75%, and assuming we’ve found a bird in our flock with a 1.5% Stone bonus, we’re now at 76.5%!

Bird Sips 🧃

Although bird sips are a great way to boost your percentage, none currently exist for Stone.

This could change, however. The devs have previously said that they will be keeping a watchful eye on sip usage, and could introduce new sips, nerf some, or even get rid of some altogether.

Keep an eye on announcements, especially when Season 2 Blueprints are released, as this would seem like a good time to introduce new bird sips too.

Pop Roqs anyone?

Yes, I spent wayyyy too much time making custom renditions of my Pop Roqs idea — a speculative bird sip to aid in foraging for Stone!

Blank Traits 👤

As always, choose your birds wisely, as empty slots are one of the most important factors in the foraging game. Figure out exactly how many equips you’ll need to get to your bird to 100%.

Choose a bird with too few slots and you won’t be able to make it. Choose a bird with too many, and you’ll be wasting those slots on a bird foraging for Stone, while you could have used those slots on Dark Matter or Tungsten.

Birds will always have between six (the coveted two-trait’s) and one (the coveted Unique’s) equip slots open.

On the left, an Obsidian body two-trait (which ironically gives a Mech bonus). On the right, Roostr #1, one of the 12 Unique’s — and on sale for 11,000 $AVAX. 🔺

When foraging for Stone, I like to choose birds that have three empty slots available, as this is all I need to get my birds to 100%. Remember, nothing over 100% counts!

Bird Equips ⛏️

These are the real game-changers! Adding bird equips is perhaps the biggest edge you can gain in foraging. Stone bird equips are pretty darn powerful.

Each Stone equip adds 7.5% to your success rate! Adding just three of these equips gives you a 22.5% bonus!

All bird equip Blueprints are rare, meaning that they are found in rows 3–9 (aka tiles 11–45) in your WormFarm. They are as follows:

• Stone Mason Hood — Head

• Rockbreaker Charm — Neck

• Stone Mason’s Compass — Torso

• Seismic Tail — Tail

• Stone Mason’s Boots — Feet

From left to right: Stone Mason Hood, Rockbreaker Charm, Stone Mason’s Compass, Seismic Tail, Stone Mason’s Boots.

Note: Each equipable Item has 200 uses. You can send your bird out foraging 200 times using just one equipable. Once it runs out, it can be decomposed for resources. Remember from before — decompose before it is broken.

Craft bird equips if you have the Blueprint or go and get them off the Item marketplace 🛍️ if you don’t. Just make sure that you are NOT foraging without them. They are that important!

Note: Community member Search, aka avaxchikn on Twitter/X, has put together an excellent resource, called Item Investment Advisor, to help us find good deals on crafted Items. I highly recommend checking it out!

Bird equips are what’ll get your bird near 100% success rate on Stone. Equip three Stone equips and suddenly we’ve gone from 76.5% to 99%! Boom!

Getting Over the Hump ⛰️

Time to add to your Farmlands’ LP Farm Fertility for a bonus!

Burning a little $FERT will not only increase your Farmland LP multiplier for farming $WORM, but it will also give you a percentage boost for foraging! At 6x Farmland fertility, you’ll get a 1% foraging bonus!

And with that 1%, we’ve reached 100%. Congratulations! You are the king of your Roq’s! 👑 👑 👑

Yay! 100% for Stone! We killing it fam!

Note: Feel free to use this spreadsheet to calculate what sips and equips you need for Stone. As this series continues, I’ll continue to add the other resources!

Continuing with my tradition, I’d like to wrap-up by giving a few shoutouts to some peeps in the Chikn community!

Firstly, to ViperXL007. I think it’s amazing what you are doing to try and help Zecharia, a little girl in need. If anyone reading this would like to join the cause, see his Twitter/X account (linked to his name above) and follow the instructions in his pinned post. Viper has matched all donation’s up until he hit $2,000! Awesome work man. ❤️

Secondly, to Gribbly. Thank you for introducing me and the rest of the EGGZ community to Stars Arena. I heard of it from you first — although you did add a caveat to DYOR. I was having a blast over there until the hack. I’m sure it will re-launch at some point. Also, huge shoutout for your Capture the Flag challenge! That was so much fun, can’t wait to do another one! 🙌

And finally, once again to the Chikn NFT devs. Whichever one of you fixed the off-chain lagging issues, THANK YOU! You’ve saved me at least 15 minutes every morning in just waiting for things to load. I’m able to claim my forages so much quicker now. The off-chain infrastructure is just humming along. Thank you. 🫡

Well, that’s it for Stone! 🪨

In the next edition of Dano’s Almanac — A Guide to Farmland Foraging, we will be covering our next resource.

Things are about to get slippery. 🤔

Dano out!
