New Year’s Wish
How to actually follow through on your resolutions.
Since it’s the new year I have a few resolutions I’d like to get out there. I think resolutions are misunderstood and misrepresented. Resolutions are meant to be resolute and most of us are not. Life is messy and I envy those who have constant clarity but I don’t feel that I should have that clarity (all the time). We need a visceral experience to anchor our resolutions down and a constant reminder of just why those resolutions were so important to us.
While they are a important to us it’s also important to remember not to dichotomize succeeding at your resolutions and failing at your resolutions. I love this post that talks about framing the words you tell yourself. While the thought of failing to follow through with your resolution may motivate you by fear, the following way of framing what your resolutions mean to you will help you keep them fresh and pertinent at the front of your mind:
me: what are your resolutions for the new year?
christine: my resolution is more of a wish. does that count?
me: yes.
christine: I wish to remember that every moment has as much potential for change and betterment as the first second of a new year.
