This week’s topic about Creative Leadership, was extremely interesting and informative. I was inspiring to read that anyone can be a leader. You don’t have to be the boss as it’s just a matter of finding the sort of leader you are and how you can lead. In the class lecture we completed a survey to find out what personality we are.

In previous jobs, I have found it easier to be a leader when I have held a higher status or rank, such as a Manager position as these roles normally comes with respect from other employees who can also be inspired by my work.

However, when working on student projects, I have found respect wasn’t easy to achieve and I seemed unable to inspire others. I lose a lot of confidence from this and struggled to carry out my job effectively.

So, when I went on to do this personality test survey in class, I discovered I was an Advocate and that these issues I’ve had, are problems that many Advocates face. Through this survey I was able to get a better understanding of…

o Who I am

o What works for me

o What doesn’t work for me

o Who I work well with

It is also a useful tool for being able to find out what other Creative Leaders there are and how they work. Here is a link to find out what personality you are.

When you look at Tim Burton’s films it’s clear that he is a Creative Leader, as all his cast and crew know what he wants. I believe this is one of the reasons Tim Burton keeps the same cast and crew throughout most of his films. He knows who he can work with. The following video gives a good example of the sorts of people you don’t want to work with.

Learning about the qualities and abilities of the different Creative Leaders gives you a better understanding of the roles in which they can play. And how best to use these abilities to your advantage. Not only is this information useful in knowing who I am, it will also help me in my future collaborative projects. what an interesting and useful topic to learn about this week.
