As humans, we crave discovery, and to explore. We crave the breaking down on barriers and the conquering of new fronts. We crave innovation.

We’ve been on Earth for over an est. 140 000 years, and while living here, our agriculture processes have changed a lot.

But, within the last 100 years, we seem to have hit a plateau. Ag-Tech innovation happening, but, not being put into widespread action yet. Meanwhile, our current food practises are wasteful and beg for change.

ESCA wants to break this cycle. We want to innovate a new type of food future. We’ve decided to write and publish our manifesto publicly, so that we are held accountable to our values. To learn more about what we specifically do as a company, click here 😉

A Future Without Food

As pioneers and disruptors ESCA expands the possibilities of food technology to serve all of humankind with the ultimate of goal of creating a sustainable future without food.

Through sustainable practises and ethical development, ESCA wants to be a the forefront of the food revolution. Our goal is to create a future without food, where we can use nutritional capsules made from algae and fungi to provide a source of nourishment while minimizing the amount of harm done by traditional farming practises.

As we continue to explore, not only our Earth, but, the universe and beyond, we will need food sources for colonization. ESCA believes its capsules could be used as a way of easily accessing nutrients.

Our Four Pillars

ESCA wants to pioneer a change, but, in order to do this, we want to make sure that everything we’re doing is in line with our four core values.

♻️ Sustainability

ESCA recognizes the large environmental footprint that traditional farming practises have, and use this as a motivator for creating, not only a future without food, but, a sustainable future without food.

In order to ensure this:

  • We’ll be using vertical farming to grow all our products. This method allows us to cut down on the water we use by 95% (compared to conventional farms), maximize the amount of nutrients, and increase crop yield per square foot. For a primer on vertical farming, click here.
  • The main container used to host the pills will be made out of glass. Although it is not recyclable, consumers will use this for anytime they need to get pills. This is the equivalent of a water bottle for water, simply made for pills instead 😉
  • We’ll be using pouches created by Elevate Packaging to keep our monthly refills in. This is a compostable and bio-based option, which is able to keep oxygen and moisture out.
  • Vehicles use to transport ESCA products will be electric.
  • Any production needs associated with ESCA products will all run on renewables.

Any further associated needs regarding ESCA’s products will be analyzed to make sure they are environmentally friendly as well.

🖥 Technological Innovation

ESCA recognizes that the future will be and is already being fuelled by technology. We believe this is an important asset and a large part of who we are as a company.

As a company, we want to make sure that we don’t ignore innovation because of reasons like ‘fear of change’ or ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. We disagree heavily with these mentalities.

When possible, ESCA will explore and implement different technologies to improve our products, or, further make them more in line with our own values. We want to move forward, even if it means we must shift our processes in another direction.

🚀 Accessibility

We believe that everyone should have access to ESCA products, no matter where you are in the world (or the galaxy 🛰).

Not only are algae and fungi nutritious, they’re easy to grow! While traditional farming practises require immense amounts of water and energy, fungi and algae are easier to maintain and cultivate.

Through this, we are able to cut down transportation costs, and host more ESCA product-providing locations.

In addition, everything will be made personalized and customizable online (including mobile support). If you are able to access a signal, you will be able to access our products.

There is one exception. As of right now, our products limited to those above the age 19. Children, especially younger ones, are not ready to take capsules at such a vulnerable time, and we want to ensure that our products are able to provide exactly what they need to grow strongly.

💸 Affordability

Tying into accessibility, ESCA also strongly believes in affordable pricing. We want to make sure that everyone can purchase these goods.

Our products and practises will follow specific protocol that ensures we minimize things like energy, water, packaging, and other production costs.

Through this we can cut down the cost of our product, and eliminate certain financial barriers. As of right now, our estimated cost for 24 bottles is $34.32 CAD ($24.39 USD), or $1.43 CAD ($1.02 USD) per bottle.

👩‍🌾 Our Team 👨‍🌾

Our team consists of three high school students looking to make a difference. We’ve all worked in different projects surround synthetic biology, sustainability, healthcare, and human development.

Most people are scared of change. We’ve been fortunate enough to be exposed to different exponential technologies and all believe in the power of innovation.

We are futurists, and want to activate changes in the world, with the end goal of eventually impacting billions of people or solving some of the world’s biggest problems.

We know, it seems super ambitious.

But, this is the future that we envision happening, and we want to be the people who ignite this change.

🥂 Here’s to a Future without Food!
