When Jeannette Walls explained her future plans about becoming a veterinarian or a geologist to the man, he replies “‘For the daughter of the town drunk, you sure got big plans’” (Walls). Jeannette took this very offensively and told the man to pull over. He did so while claiming that was not what he meant. Jeannette got out of the truck and tried to pull her drunk father out. After a while of tugging and pulling, she realized that he was too heavy for her, so she got back into the truck and let the man take them home.

My plan for the future has been solid for about a year now. I have a warm spot in my heart for animals and kids/babies. Because I am allergic to cats, my plan is to work in the medical field as a pediatric nurse. I plan to achieve this dream by working hard in school and giving all the effort I possibly can. When I tell others about my plan, they immediately tell me how much stress I am going to be under and how I am going to have to work very hard to pass my classes. When I hear them say that, all I can tell myself is that “I can do it”. My mother, grandma and uncles are the ones that will help me with this journey. They have already started giving me advice and telling me what I should do with my future decisions and which path will lead me to my dream. They also tell me things like “I’m proud of you” and “Don’t give up on something that you’re passionate about”. They tell me these things to keep me from living the way they are now. My mom is not passionate about her job and my uncle Henry has just begun a job that he’s passionate about. I will work to the best of my ability to achieve this and make my family proud.
