The Lotus Eaters

“The Lotus Eaters.” Navigating the Odyssey
  • Also known as The Lotos-Eaters, Lotophagoi, and Lotophagi
  • They just exist fam, they have no parents.
  • They are known for eating lotus flowers that cause the eater to leave their life behind.
  • All they do is eat and lay around on the island they live on.
  • In the Odyssey, Odysseus’s crew finds the lotus eaters and the crew is offered lotus flowers. This causes them to become inebriated and to not want to get back on the ship.
  • They appear in Percy Jackson as the Lotus Hotel.

Helios

  • Also known as Helius and Sol
  • Son of titans Hyperion (titan of heavenly light) and Theia (titan of sight), brother of Selene (goddess of the moon) and Eos (goddess of the dawn)-see family below
  • He is the sun.
  • He is a god, pulls his sun chariot across the sky, and is all-seeing.
  • In the Odyssey, Odysseus’s men kill Helios’s cattle, so Helios orders the Gods to take vengeance on Odysseus. He told Demeter about Persephone’s kidnapping, and he told Hephaestus about Aphrodite’s and Ares’ affair.
  • several tanning things named after Helios, the airline Helios, Chronicles of Chaos
